Κιθάρα,μπάσο,τύμπανα,συνθεσάιζερ,πιάνο ,φωνητικά...Καλώς ήλθατε στο New Wave!Ένα μουσικό κίνημα που δημιουργήθηκε,αρχικά, κατά τη δεκαετία του 70.
Μία Alternative Rock έκφραση καλλιτεχνών και συγκροτημάτων της Rock και της Punk μουσικής προς τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70..Μέχρι τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του '80 η έννοια της μουσικής New Wave είναι ήδη ένας πολύ γενικός όρος.
Περνάει μέσα από πολλά μουσικά παρακλάδια ενσωματώνοντας ηλεκτρονική πειραματική μουσική , στοιχεία από την Rock τo Punk την Ska την disco και την pop μέχρι να ακουμπήσει το νοσταλγικό και ρομαντικό gothic rock.
Η πρώτη περίοδος New Wave (στα 70' s ) διαφέρει αρκετά με την οριστική επισημοποίηση του είδους στις αρχές και τα μέσα της δεκαετίας του '80 που περιλαμβάνει πια τη χρήση συνθεσάιζερ και ηλεκτρονικές παραγωγές που ποικίλουν ανάλογα με το στυλ και την τεχνοτροπία τους
Το M.T.V.αφιερώνει και καθιερώνει αρκετές ώρες στο πρόγραμμά του στους καλλιτέχνες και τα γκρουπ του είδους και είναι σε μεγάλο βαθμό υπεύθυνο για το ύψος της δημοτικότητας τους .
Την ίδια στιγμή το κανάλι έχει συμβάλει τα μέγιστα στην επιρροή που θα έχουν οι επόμενες γενιές της μουσικής, για τις επόμενες δεκαετίες, καθώς το New Wave γίνεται εμπνευστής για πολλές από αυτές.Οι αναζωπυρώσεις του New Wave στη δεκαετία του 1990 και στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 2000 γίνονται η αφορμή και επηρεάζουν μια μεγάλη ποικιλία από άλλα νέα μουσικά είδη.
Σε αυτό συμβάλουν και οι εβδομαδιαίες μουσικές εφημερίδες όπως το Melody maker και το New Musical Express (που επίσης καθιερώνουν την παρουσία τους το ίδιο χρονικό διάστημα).Τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70 θα μπορούσε να πει κανείς πως το New Wave αντικατέστησε το Punk και καθιέρωσε την καινούργια εναλλακτική μουσική πρόταση στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο.Πολλά από τα συγκροτήματα είχαν αρχίσει να αποσυνδέονται τα ίδια από το πανκ.Το άναρχο ήθος και το γκαράζ ύφος των Sex Pistols θα άφηνε τη θέση του στον πειραματισμό και την πολυπλοκότητα των νέων λυρικών παραγωγών.(Blondie,Talking Heads,Mink Devil κ.α.).
Η δεκαετία θα άλλαζε.Η μουσική θα άλλαζε.Έπρεπε να αλλάξει και ο <τίτλος>,να γίνει πιο προσιτός στις δισκογραφικές εταιρείες οι οποίες θα μετέφεραν αυτό το νέο είδος στο κοινό.Σε λίγο σε πολλά σημεία του κόσμου σχεδόν οτιδήποτε θα ήταν New Wave!
To cd στο αυτοκίνητο έπαιζε το <Hunging Garden> των Cure που μόλις τελείωνε.Βγήκαμε από την κεντρική λεωφόρο και στρίψαμε σ ένα παράδρομο αριστερά και αρχίσαμε να ανεβαίνουμε.Τα μοναδικά φώτα τώρα ήταν αυτά του αυτοκινήτου μας.
Τα πελώρια κλαριά των μεγάλων δέντρων έμοιαζαν με σιδερένια χέρια μέσα στη νύχτα που λες και προσπαθούσαν να ανακόψουν την πορεία του αυτοκινήτου.Στο ξέφωτο φάνηκε το περίγραμμα ενός πύργου τυλιγμένου στην ομίχλη.Χωρίς μίξη το cd πέρασε στο επόμενο κομμάτι.Οι κιθάρες από το <How soon is now> των Smiths μόλις είχαν ξεκινήσει...
Θεωρούνται από πολλούς τα 250 καλύτερα New Wave τραγούδια ανά τον κόσμο χωρίς αυτό να σημαίνει πως εκατοντάδες άλλα κομμάτια που δεν είναι στη λίστα δεν ήταν εξίσου καλά ή και καλύτερα.Απλώς αυτά ήταν απ τα πιο δημοφιλή διότι τη συγκεκριμένη χρονική στιγμή ήταν εκεί στο σημείο που συνέβαινε η έκρηξη του New Wave.
